Dy Mayor tables BBMP report after a gap of four years

Bhadre Gowda alleged that the officials deliberately delayed sharing details needed to compile the administrative report.

Bengaluru: Amidst uproar in the BBMP Council, Deputy Mayor Bhadre Gowda presented the administrative report for 2012-13, 2013-14 and 2014-15, which was not presented for the last four years.

The Karnataka Municipal Council Act specifies that the deputy mayor should submit the administrative report every year, containing details of all the 33 departments of the BBMP, their financial condition, progress, new projects and expenses. But it was last done 2015 when then deputy mayor Hemalatha Gopalaiah presented it.

Mr Bhadre Gowda alleged that the officials deliberately delayed sharing details needed to compile the administrative report. He wished he could file the administrative reports for all the years from 2012 to 2018. “As all the details were not given on time, I had to file the report from 2012 to 2014,” he said, requesting the corporators to discuss on the report and give their suggestions.

He said, “Based on the report, we can gauge development in the city and take suitable decision on future plans.”

Verbal fight before the presentation
While Mr Bhadre Gowda was getting ready to present the administrative report, BJP corporators protested. Leader of opposition Padmanabha Reddy demanded that there be a wide debate on the administration report.

“That is the norm in BBMP history. But the report is being tabled in a hurry without giving any opportunity for a debate,” he said.

Former ruling party leader Shivaraj alleged that the BJP members are opposing the administration report as they are scared of scams and illegalities during their tenure coming to light.
