Hyderabad: Former minister and TPCC senior leader Mr. Marri Sashidhar Reddy condemned Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s statement on Hindi language in an open letter to him.
Mr. Sasidhar Reddy said the three language formula is the only solution and asked for categorical assurance to the people of southern states that there will be no attempt to impose the Hindi language on them.
Mr. Reddy said in the present arrangement, the Official Language Act, 1963 as amended in 1967 was “to provide that the use of English would not be ended until a resolution to that effect was passed by the legislature of every state that has not adopted Hindi as its official language.”
He alleged that every decision by the central government led by the BJP has only been with an eye on elections. He asked to treat the push for the Hindi language as a closed subject.
Mr. Reddy said that if the re-allocation of Lok Sabha seats is done today on the basis of the present (2011) population, the five southern states of Kerala, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, AP and Telangana will stand to lose a minimum of 33 out of the existing total 129 Lok Sabha seats.
