2 Kakkayam shutters to be raised
KOZHIKODE: Kozhikode Collector Seeram Sambasiva Rao has urged residents of both banks of Kuttiyadi River to be on alert as two shutters of the Kakkayam Dam are all set to be lifted by one 'feet' each on Thursday.
The catchment area of the dam was getting copious rains in the last two days, necessitating the release of water to keep it within safety limits, a press release said.
Meanwhile, the Banasura Sagar Dam executive engineer has warned families living on the two banks of River Kadamanthodu at the lower reaches of the dam against flooding as one shutter of the dam was lifted on Wednesday afternoon to bring down water to 775 metres from the current level of 775.05 metres.
The water level of the river will be up by 10 to 15 cm with an intense flow. Any attempt to step into the water may invite mishap, the executive engineer said.
