Hyderabad:4-lane Sri Ram Nagar road is now 2-lane'

In just about 10 minutes, there are 10 violations of wrong side driving' in the area.

Hyderabad: A bottleneck at Sri Ram Nagar, in Kondapur, is being created by hawkers and shop owners on the already narrow road.

While the shop owners place hoardings on the main road, new hawkers are appearing each day, reducing the length of the four-lane road to two-lane. Residents allege that the badly placed U-turns are adding to the traffic woes. In just about 10 minutes, there are 10 violations of ‘wrong side driving’ in the area.

People even try to jump over the barricades putting themselves at risk. While there are medians which help in handling two-side traffic to an extent, the side lanes are chaotic.

Besides, when it rains, there is a huge traffic congestion. Interestingly, there is a patrolling vehicle designated for the area. However it appears to be totally futile as violations continue.

Mr Aditya Agarwal who has been residing in the area for about five years now, said, “Despite the presence of police, people are violating rules and it is getting crazier by the day leaving hardly any room for cars to drive through. There are two U-turns which are very badly placed because of which people take the wrong route thereby worsening the situation.”

People jump over the barricade throughout the day to cross the road which in itself is risky.
