SCB residents wake up to another road blockade
Hyderabad: Secunderabad Cantonment residents, who are fighting against the closure of roads by the Army, were in for a shock on Monday when another road was closed near the Cantonment Public Garden at Bolaram.
A sign board that reads “Defence Area No Thoroughfare” was put up overnight along with a wooden log right in the middle of the road, barring entry to civilians beyond that point. Locals, who went for their morning walk on the road, were caught unaware and had to turn back.
The road does not see much traffic, but local traffic police uses it to divert vehicles to clear the way for Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao when travels to his farm-house in Erravalli.
Bolarum resident G. Jeetender said, “Do the military authorities want to choke traffic when the Chief Minister travels.”
Bolarum ward member J. Lokanatham said that he had received complaints from locals about the sudden closure of the road. The closure would inconvenience many motorists, he said.
Cantonment Board vice-president J. Ramakrishna said that he had been told that the road was in the ‘C’ category. If was indeed so, the Cantonment Board would take steps to get it reopened by passing a resolution in next meeting.
