Rs 18,016 crore accumulated via CPS, govt tells Madras HC

Chennai: The state government has informed Madras high court that a sum of Rs 18,016 crore has been accumulated, including interest up to March 31, under Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS).

The counter-affidavit filed by secretary, (expenditure), has stated that the Commissioner of Treasuries and Accounts, received 7,409 applications requesting CPS final settlement up to August 31.

Of those, final authorisations have been issued to 3,288 retired/resigned employees/deceased employees for Rs 125.24 crore and remaining applications would be authorised on receipt of the processed requisite documents. The government issued orders in February 2016.

The affidavit was filed before Justice N. Kirubakaran on Monday in response to petitions from Sri Venkateswara Aided Middle School in Namakkal district and others. The judge posted that matter to Friday for further hearing.
