Kaloji memorial to be better than Falaknuma

No effort will be spared on construction: TSTDC.

Warangal: Construction of the Kaloji Kalakshetram, the multi-purpose cultural centre in Hanamkonda being constructed in memory of ‘people’s poet’ Kaloji Narayana Rao, will be completed within one year.

This was promised by TS Tourism Development Corporation chairman Pervaram Ramulu who, along with Kakatiya Urban Development Authority chairman Marri Yadava Reddy, inspected the ongoing works at Hayagreeva Chary ground in Balasamudram on Monday.

Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao had laid the foundation stone for this cultural centre on the occasion of the poet’s centenary in 2014. The four-storey building on a sprawling 4.5 acre campus is being constructed at a cost of Rs 50 crore.

Mr Ramulu said the exquisitely designed Roman-style pillars that run the length of the building and interiors resembling the Orly airport in Paris would be the highlight of the convention centre.

He said no other building in Telangana has been designed to strike so much awe. This structure is designed to look as magnificent as the Falaknuma Palace in Hyderabad, he said.

This structure has a plinth area of 32,000 sq ft. The length of the building would be 42 feet.

“The mega cultural centre would provide the platform to showcase the art and culture in Telangana which has lost patronage. The construction works are going on as per the schedule. We expect the civil works to be completed by February next year and the interior works would follow. In all, we are planning to celebrate the next birth anniversary of the great poet in this cultural centre,” he said.

The auditorium would seat 1,100 persons. An art gallery, stage, green rooms, atrium, pre-function area and a library would be part of the kala kshetram. The work is estimated to be completed in 2018.

The model of the building was released by Tourism minister Chandulal in June 2015. The concept plans were finalised and administrative sanctions accorded in December 2015. E-tender notices were floated in January 2016 for building the superstructure, interior designs and landscaping.
