Hyderabad High Court gets six new judges

The Supreme Court collegium recommended the above names to the Centre for the posts of High Court judges last year.

Hyderabad: Six practising lawyers of the Hyderabad High Court have been appointed judges of the court after the President of India issued a warrant of appointment on Monday.

They are D.V.S.S. Somayajulu, Potlapalli Keshava Rao, Manthoj Ganga Rao, Abhinand Kumar Shavili, Todu-punuri Amarnath Goud and Kongara Vijaya Lakshmi. They are likely to be sworn in on September 21.

The Supreme Court collegium recommended the above names to the Centre for the posts of High Court judges last year. Apart from the Acting Chief Justice, the strength of the High Court judges will now go up to 33 as against the approved strength of 61.

Mr Somayajulu was born in September 1961 and has been practising since 1988. He is a senior advocate from Visakhapatnam and was the ex-president of the Visakhapatnam Bar Association.

New judges have long experience as lawyers
Mr Keshava Rao was born at Peddapendyal village in Warangal district in March 1961. He completed his law degree in 1982 and enrolled as an advocate in April 1986.

Mr Ganga Rao comes from Guntakal in Anantapur district and was born in April 1961. He enrolled as an advocate in 1988 and has been practising for the last 27 years.

Mr Amarnath Goud from Secunderabad city was born in March 1965. He enrolled as an advocate in 1990 and has been practising in the High Court and subordinate courts.
