Thiruvananthapuram: Schools celebrate Onam in all splendor

Students distributed new dresses, toys and sweets and entertained them with folk songs related to Onam and various games.

Thiruvananthapuram: Schools in the district organised various programmes to celebrate Onam this year. MGM Central Public School, Akkulam, celebrated the harvest festival embracing the traditional spirit with all its splendour and richness of culture. The cultural programme emphasised on classical art forms with students actively participating in the programmes.

Chief guest Jayachandran Kadampanad, folk song artist and director of Folklore Life Academy, opened the function and entertained the children with folk songs. School director Prof Vijayakumar, administrative manager Sunil Kumar and vice-principal Bindu Ramesh attended.

Jyothis Central School, Kazhakuttom, held various competitions for teachers and students. One of the highlights of the day was the Onamkali performance.

Distribution of payasam and Onasadhya was the other attractions. School chairperson S Jyothis Chandran, academic director H. P. Sharma, principal L. Salitha and vice-principal Sobhana Begum attended the programme. M Shabnam, a teacher of the school, delivered the Bakrid message.

Student Police Corps of the Government High School, Avanavanchery, celebrated with physically challenged students of Snehatheeram Buds School, Valakkad, a rehabilitation centre for children with physical disabilities and autism.
