HYDERABAD: The state has received 832.3 mm of rainfall since the beginning of the monsoon on June 1 till Saturday against the season normal of 515 mm, the India Meteorological Department (IMD). This means the state has received 62 per cent excess rainfall, with about 45 days of the monsoon left to go.
More than 80 per cent of mandals reported more than normal rainfall. Mangapet in Mulugu district recorded the highest rainfall of 111 mm on August 14.
Out of 594 mandals, 278 (47 per cent) received large excess, 240 (40 per cent) received excess, 72 (12 per cent) received normal and four mandals (1 per cent) received deficit rainfall, the IMD stated.
The massive rainfall has resulted in about a dozen deaths, inundation of large swathes of land including agricultural fields where standing crop has been damaged. The rain also soaked paddy kept with rice millers.
The city experienced sudden intense rain spells on Friday evening with heavy winds, resulting in many areas submerging in water. Ranga Reddy district recorded the highest rainfall with Mailardevpally 29.5 mm, Sivarampalli 25., and Shashtripuram 24.8 mm.
The IMD issued a yellow alert for the districts of Adilabad, Komaram Bheem Asifabad and Mancherial for the next 24 hours, as isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to occur at many places in these cities. Isolated thunderstorms accompanied with lightning and gusty winds (30-40 KMPH) are very likely to occur at places over the state in the next 24 hours.
