Teachers force students to clean toilets in B’luru North, ZP members cry foul

DC orders spot inspection.

Bengaluru: Deputy Commissioner K Srinivas has ordered a probe against teachers who have allegedly forced students to clean the toilets of Government Lower Primary School at Kachohalli village in Bengaluru North Education Block.

The DC ordered the probe as Zilla Panchayat members of Bengaluru Rural District cutting across political lines sought action against teachers for using children to clean the toilets instead of hiring ayas or peons, at a general body meeting held on Saturday.

The DC also directed Bengaluru North Taluk Panchayat Executive Officer, Block Education Officers and other Education Department officers to visit the spot and submit a report to him.

ZP member Umesh who raised the issue at the meeting demanded the suspension of teachers and the education department officials for employing children to clean the toilets.

He also pointed out that lower primary school students of the village were not coming to school as they were forced to clean the toilets.

ZP health and Education Standing Committee Chair man K.T Narasimhamurthy and Social Justice Standing Committee chairman Chokkanahalli Venkatesh have also condemned the teachers for forcing school children to clean the toilets though the ZP had released grants to all government schools to spend money to clean toilets and keep their surroundings clean. This issue rocked the meeting for several hours.
