KOCHI: The search using the ground penetrating radars (GPR) by a team of scientists from the Hyderabad-based National Geophysical Research Institute for locating people suspected to be buried under landslide debris on Sunday has failed to make any substantial impact for finding the missing persons. The GPR system was used for nearly two hours without much success.
The high-levels of mud and water in the region have marred the effectiveness of the GPR system, sources said.
In the normal search operations in the region bodies of six more persons were recovered on Sunday taking the total of death-toll to 46. According to the official agencies 59 persons have gone missing after the landslide in the region, leaving the whereabouts of 13 more persons to be accounted for.
A decision on further use of GPR system in the area will be taken after discussions. Discussions will also be held on whether the system will be taken to Puthumala, in Wayanad, another worst affected region of land-slide.
