Bengaluru: Yarab Nagar chokes as garbage burns

The motorists who use the road regularly complain of poor maintenance and even a light rain leads to formation of craters.

Bengaluru: Yarab Nagar in Banashankari temple ward is a civic nightmare with low waste segregation compliance, and illegal dumping and burning of garbage. Residents allege that the road opposite National Power Training Institute (NPTI) is notorious for these activities.

"Garbage burning has been a major issue. Since the entire lane has small eateries or vehicle repair shops, there has been zero implementation of solid waste management and pollution control board norms. During night garbage burning is a regular sight and the local Corporator has been ignoring the problem," said Rafeeq, a local resident.

The motorists who use the road regularly complain of poor maintenance and even a light rain leads to formation of craters. The condition of narrow lanes at Yarab Nagar is even worse.

"There have been cases of theft, extortion and rampant hooliganism even in broad daylight. The police know this but take no action against the culprits. As far as garbage burning is concerned the health inspectors at Kumarswamy Layout and Tipu Sultan circle are tired of clearing the garbage and they blame the residents of Banashankari for illegally dumping garbage in their wards as well," said Abdul Haq, a resident of Kaderanahalli cross.

The residents want the corporator to clear the black spots starting from Banashankari Temple to the different lanes in Yarab Nagar and elsewhere.
