Bengaluru: The Cyber Crime Police arrested a conman on Sunday who was fleecing young women online by offering them roles in Kannada movies. The accused, Venkatesh Bhavasa (22), had opened a fake profile on Facebook and befriended young aspiring actresses and swindled them of money by promising roles in movies, said Sandeep Patil, Joint Police Commissioner.

After chatting with the gullible women on Facebook Messenger Venkatesh used to share with them a WhatsApp number, ostensibly belonging to an associate director Venky Rao.

Later, he himself used to chat with the gullible women as Venky Rao, meet them personally and collected Rs 25,000 from them. When the women tried to make video calls, he would avoid talking under the pretext of poor network.
