New Delhi: Congress president Mr. Rahul Gandhi has revoked the suspension of Mr. Mani Shankar Aiyar from the Congress. Agreeing with the decision of the Central Disciplinary Committee of the party to reinduct Mr. Mani Shankar Aiyar back in the party. Mr. Aiyar was suspended from the primary membership of the party after he made a remark on Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi during election campaigning ahead of the Gujarat elections last year. Mr. Mani Shankar Aiyar had famously retorted against the Prime Minister while talking to a bunch of reporters, “Mujhko lagta hai ki ye aadmi bahut neech kisam ka aadmi hai, isme koi sabhyata nahi hai, or aise mauke par is kisam ki gandi rajniti karne ki kya avashyakta hai? (This man is a low-life person, he isn't cultured... at this moment why does he need to practice such dirty politics?)."
Taking the moral high ground during the Gujarat assembly elections the then Vice President of the party Mr. Rahul Gandhi had expelled him from the party and referred the matter to the disciplinary committee of the party. Mr. Rahul Gandhi had pointed out that the language used by Mr. Aiyar was contrary to the 'culture and heritage' of the party. He further said that the party expects Aiyar to apologise for what he said. Shortly thereafter, Mr. Aiyar said that what he meant was lost in translation. He said he was not aware about the nuances and different interpretations of the word 'neech'.
Mr. Gandhi had also tweeted then : "BJP and PM routinely use filthy language to attack Congress party. Congress has a different culture and heritage. I do not appreciate the tone and language used by Mr. Mani Shankar Aiyar to address the PM. Both the Congress and I expect him to apologise for what he said."
In the press release issued by Mr. Ashok Gehlot the General Secretary Incharge of the Organisation of the AICC said that the Congress president had approved the recommendation of the Central Disciplinary Committee of AICC for revoking the suspension of Mani Shankar Aiyar from the primary membership with immediate effect.
