Man tells Hyderabad High Court of torture by police

He alleged that he was beaten up and forced to delete the audio clips from his phone.

Hyderabad: The High Court served sought the government’s response to a petition seeking punishment of police officers responsible for confining P. Kanna Reddy of Vikarabad, and torturing him which damaged his kidneys.

Justice Challa Kodanda-ram was dealing with the petition that questioned the SP for not taking action against Mominpet inspector Raju and police personnel Raghu, K. Raju, M. Veera-swamy, Sri Vasu, M. Venkataiah, K. Shankaraiah, B. Shivaiah and Raghavender besides agriculture department employee Neeraja and her husband Veera Bhadres-war Rao despite an FIR registered on May 29, 2017.

Kanna Reddy told the court that he and his brother had applied for a licence to set up a fertiliser business in March 2017 but Ms Neeraja did not process the application and demanded a bribe.

When they refused, there was a quarrel which was recorded on his cell phone. Ms Neeraja lodged a complaint with the Mominpet police following which he and his brother were taken into custody, he said.

He alleged that he was beaten up and forced to delete the audio clips from his phone. After this, his health deteriorated, and doctors found that both his kidneys were badly damaged. He approached the Vikarabad SP who ordered an inquiry by the DSP and later a case was filed but there was no action later.
