Kerala: Youth in fake Blue Whale mess
Kottayam: A fake ‘Blue Whale’ message is as serious as a real one that can get you into trouble. A youth realised this the hard way after he landed in police net after posting on Facebook the picture of bandaged palm with bloodstains on it. The Murikkassery police on Friday registered a case against Jaison Francis, 22, under the Information Technology Act 67 for promoting suicide tendencies among the young generation.
Francis, who passed Plus-Two, has been doing painting works and undergoing a course in aluminium fabrication. The police who interrogated him on Thursday found that he had entered the four stages of the ‘Blue Whale’ game. However, he denied that he had practised it. The picture posted on the Facebook was fake, he said. “The person needed psychiatric attention and has been admitted to the Bishop Vayalil Hospital at Thodupuzha. He also shows suicide tendencies,” Mr M.V. Poulose, sub-inspector of Murikkassery, told this newspaper.
Mr K.B. Venugopal, Idukki district police chief, said that the youth was an aficionado of computer games. “He studied computer animation and is familiar with most of the controversial games. A case has been registered against him to prevent him from spreading false messages,” Mr Venugopal said.
