Plea for NHAI takeover of Kateri-Ketti-Yellanalli road

. Presently the Kateri-Ketti -Yellanalli road is under the control of the state highway department.

Ooty: With tourist inflow to the Nilgiris, especially, Ooty, being around 30 lakhs per year now, an increase in the volume of traffic to the hills, there is need for the national highway administration to take over the Kateri-Ketti-Yellanalli road to develop that into a broader road to make it an alternative road to reach Ooty from the Coimbatore side without touching Coonoor, said Mr. Rohit Jain, former president of the Citizens' Forum of Ooty.

“A few years ago a public hearing was held on this regard. But unfortunately nothing tangible was done. Presently the Kateri-Ketti -Yellanalli road is under the control of the state highway department. This should be handed over to the NH for extension as it will de-congest traffic on the Kateri-Coonoor-Yellanalli sector of the Ooty-Coimbatore NH,” he suggested. This move will help evict encroachments along the Kateri-Ketti-Yellanalli sector, maintain good road connectivity to nearby villages and also reduce the travelling time between Ooty and Coimbatore, he noted.
