Hyderabad: Students protest against education policy
Hyderabad: Ambedkar Students Association carried out a poster demonstration against Dr K. Kasturirangan, chairman of the Committee for the Draft National Education Policy who had come to University of Hyderabad to deliver a lecture on the new policy.
The students stood with posters stating “Stand against Hindi imposition”, “Ensure reservations” and “Stop institutional murders”.
The Ambedkar Students Association members later submitted its representation to Dr Kasturirangan, who is a former space scientist, demanding that their concerns must be looked into by the government.
Dr Kasturirangan in the public lecture in the university stated that there will be special emphasis on promotion of Indian languages.
A gradual phasing out of contractual faculty, recruitment of full time employees and also focus on teacher training is a major part of the new education policy., he said.
For the students there will be multiple exit and entry points for academic programme, and there will be creative combination of disciplines.
There is going to be a special focus on sciences and the arts along with scope for community service.
