First-of-its kind tech MBA prog launched in IIT-Madras

The programme will commence from this academic year (2019-2020), with a limited intake of 25-30 students.

CHENNAI: Leading the way for educational institutions in the nation, Indian Institute of Technology –Madras has now launched a first-of-its-kind programme, tech MBA, for it’s undergraduate (UG) students from all the engineering streams.

The programme will commence from this academic year (2019-2020), with a limited intake of 25-30 students. According to the institution, the students undertaking tech MBA programme will be awarded two degrees, Engineering UG degree (B.Tech.) and Master’s degree in Management (MBA).

The programme will offer the foundational tech MBA courses during the third and fourth years of all UG programs. However, the students will have to satisfy a number of criteria such as CGPA, departmental aptitude test and/or personal interview to secure admission to the programme in the fifth year.

The Five-Year Inter-Disciplinary Dual Degree (IDDD) programme was conceptualised by the Department of Management Studies (DOMS), IIT Madras after analysing the emerging talent needs of the global industries, the new career opportunities in the digital economy and the evolutionary advancement of management programmes across the world.

Curated with the objective of imparting business acumen to engineering students, the curriculum blends courses from business functions, performance analytics and transformation technologies. With its unique learning outcomes, curriculum design, and pedagogy, the professors say the programme will open a wide range of opportunities for students in deep technology domains.
