MPs say no word from K Chandrasekhar Rao so far
Hyderabad: The TRS on Wednesday gave enough indications in the Lok Sabha that it will not support the no-confidence motion moved by the Telugu Desam against the BJP-led NDA government.
While members from other Opposition parties including the Congress stood in the House in support of the motion, TRS members remained confined to their seats.
Asked about their stand, TRS members refused to comment on the issue. In their internal discussions, they claimed that since they had no specific instructions from TRS president and Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao to support the motion, they had to sit quiet.
The TRS supported the BJP during the elections for the President and Vice President besides important measures like demonetisation the GST.
TRS likely to abstain
The TRS on Wednesday gave enough indications in the Lok Sabha that it will not support the No-Confidence Motion moved by the Telugu Desam against the BJP-led NDA government.
Party sources said the TRS may not support the BJP directly by voting against the motion but could abstain.
He wants party MPs to raise the pending bifurcation-related issues that were promised to the state in the AP Reorganisation Act during the debate on the no-trust motion and stage a walkout before voting.
The CM’s strategy is that by abstaining from voting, he wants to send a message that the TRS is maintaining equidistance from the Congress and BJP. Mr Rao intends to forge a federal front comprising regional parties for 2019.
TD MPs had met their TRS counterparts and sought their support for the no-confidence. The TRS won 11 Lok Sabha seats out of the 17 in 2014. MPs from Khammam (YSRC), Nalgonda (Congress) and Malkajgiri (TD) defected to the TRS. If the TD, YSRC and Congress issue whips to party MPs to support the no-confidence motion, they cannot vote against it or will risk disqualification.
