Just 940 potholes to be filled? Bengalureans ride through 1000s!
Bengaluru: A day after DC reported on the pathetic condition and pothole ridden roads across the city which are putting motorists at grave risk, Deputy Chief Minister and Bengaluru Development Minister G. Parameshwar has announced that most of the potholes have been attended to.
Except, motorists who have been raining invective on the BBMP for its gross neglect of not just major arterial roads but cratered side roads as well, are questioning these claims. For instance, although Mr Parameshwar assures that South Bengaluru has only hundred odd potholes, citizens challenge that claim by saying that there are easily a thousand potholes!
A member of federation of Koramangala residents welfare association has said that Ejipura main road and Koramangala 80 feet road as well as Indiranagar’s inner roads are full of potholes. In Koramangala and surrounding areas itself, these associations have counted off 100 potholes. “Imagine how many there would be in the entire south zone”, he questioned on condition of anonymity.
In an official communiqué, Mr. Parameshwar has given statistics on the potholes filled at all the eight zones falling under the BBMP jurisdiction. Going by the statistics given by Mr. Parameshwar just 940 potholes remain to be filled!
Since June 15, a helpline has been set up to enable public to call and complain about the potholes and the BBMP had also requested the public to post pictures of potholes to the BBMP official website.
In the first attempt, about 4944 potholes were filled up. A large number of potholes have been filled up in the last one month, he stated. TenderSure roads have been touted as a solution for pothole free roads as these roads are said to be durable and pothole free.
