Telangana to procure cloth from weavers
Hyderabad: Henceforth, cloth for uniform of children studying in government and social welfare schools will be procured from weavers within the state.
Also, cloth for KCR Kits, for Ramzan and Christmas festivals will be procured the same way.
It may be mentioned here that cloth for school uniforms were procured from other states in undivided AP. The decision was taken by textiles minister K.T. Rama Rao on Tuesday.
The minister said that every metre of cloth that the government needs will be bought from weavers so that they get livelihood.
Also, 95 lakh sarees will be given to women on Bathukamma eve, of this, 50 per cent will be ordered from Sircilla weavers.
The government will be procuring 1.2 crore metres of cloth for Rajiv Vidya Mission, 30 lakh metres for social welfare, 36 lakh metres for Ramzan, 27 lakh metres for Christmas, 25 lakh metres for KCR kits etc.
In Sircilla alone, 25,000 weavers will get work round the year while catering only to government orders.
