New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday allocated the additional charge of the information and broadcasting ministry to Union textiles minister Smriti Irani after M. Venkaiah Naidu resigned from the Cabinet to contest the vice-presidential poll.
The additional portfolio of urban development, which too was with Mr Naidu, was allocated to Narendra Singh Tomar, who already has the rural development portfolio, the PMO said.
Ms Irani had been moved to the textile ministry from the human resource ministry in a minor reshuffle last year. The minister is now likely to be back in the limelight in the high- profile I&B ministry.
