Hyderabad: Appreciating the commercial taxes department’s initiative in registering quick implementation of GST in the first fortnight itself, Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao on Tuesday said that the department had already brought in 90 per cent VAT accounts under the new GST jurisdiction.

Of the total 2.16 lakh trades under VAT in the state, 1.92 lakh were integrated under the GST by July 15 and they had already got their GST numbers.

Mr Rao said that Telangana was one of the few states in the country that has had such successful implementation. He said that Central government officials have appreciated this development, especially when in several other states, there was still a lot of confusion over GST.

Some agitations have also been reported against it. The Chief Minister congratulated commercial taxes department Principal Secretary Somesh Kumar on the success and hoped that there would be 100 per cent registration by the end of this month.

The CM also said that the state government had asked the Centre to exempt or give concessions to granite, textiles and the beedi industry.

According to sources, Mr Rao was upset that people working in these industries would be adversely affected due to the GST. The CM hoped that the Centre would respond positively and added that this issue had been raised by the state government in the GST Council as well. Mr Rao has also written a letter to the Prime Minister in this regard.
