ICG rescues 9 fishermen at Mayapadu beach

Visakhapatnam: In yet another swift operation, Indian Coast Guard (ICG) successfully rescued nine fishermen from FB Sri Pachivalliamman on major fire.

On Monday around at 7.30 pm ICGS Krishnapatnam has received a message from marine police and fisheries authorities regarding sighting of a fishing boat on fire off Mayapadu beach.

ICGS-Krishnapatnam dispatched interceptor boat icgs c-423 to investigate and provide necessary assistance.

In the meantime icgs Abheek on a routine surveillance was also diverted. On reaching the area, the FB Sri Pachivalliamman was found engulfed with major fire and the fire broke out onboard Sri Pachivalliamman regd. No kl ifb/0060910 due to explosion of LPG cylinder while cooking.

ICG ships Abheek and C-423 along with another fb in vicinity coordinated rescue of all nine fishermen to safety from the boat in distress.

Despite the sea conditions and high wind speeds the ICG ships brought the fire under control. The fb was badly damaged in fire and sank view ingress of sea water while its sister boat tried to tow her ashore and by that time the nine lives onboard were already saved by the ICG.
