After rains, Hyderabad traffic crawls

Owing to this, traffic police have now decided to make the road one way until the white topping work is over and done with.

Hyderabad: While the heavy spell of rain held up the entire city, traffic woes hit those in Cyberabad the hardest, with a 2-hour traffic jam at the heart of the IT centre.

The road from IIIT Junction to Wipro circle had a major traffic jam with one side of the road totally blocked for the ‘white topping’ road project, leaving only one lane for traffic to navigate both ways.

Owing to this, traffic police have now decided to make the road one way until the white topping work is over and done with.

“With rains it becomes harder to navigate the traffic, so we plan to make this a one-way. Incoming traffic can move from IIIT to Wipro. While outgoing traffic has the option of choosing from one of the two routes available from Wipro. Either via Amara Raja, Holiday Express and ORR entry or via ICICI Bank and Varun Motors and ORR”, informed ACP P. Ashok, traffic police, Cyberabad.

The said project undertaken by TSIIC is delayed by 3 months owing to the delay in the shifting of electric cables. “The TSPCDL needs '20 crores which we will be sanctioning soon to shift these cables,” said C. Vinod, zonal officer of TSIIC. Only 30-40 per cent of the work has been completed so far and the deadline has been pushed to January from the slated October.

Traffic in other areas was slow owing to water logging and potholes. Officials informed that the draining out of the water had been smooth and the situation was under control as the rains were light despite being constant.

The white topping project though will make things harder for companies and institutes like Wipro, TCS, ICICI, Microsoft, ISB, Q City, Financial District, Infosys, IDBI, EPTRI etc. Madhapur area had recorded the highest rainfall in the city.
