Karnataka: CID stops in its tracks following court order

CID said that they were directed by their higher-ups to stop probing the case as soon as Madikeri court directed police to register FIR.

BENGALURU: Following the court direction that the jurisdictional Madikeri Town police should register an FIR, the CID police, who were investigating the suicide of DySP M.K. Ganapati, have stopped probing the case.

Incidentally, early on Monday, Mr Ganapati’s wife Pavana had refused to give her statement to the CID officials and had sent them back stating she would not cooperate with the investigation until an FIR is registered.

Sources in the CID said that they were directed by their higher-ups to stop probing the case as soon as the court in Madikeri directed the local police to register the FIR.

“As the local police have to register the FIR and start the probe now, we have been asked the stop the probe. We will submit a report to senior officers on the probe done so far. However, it is left to the state police chief or the state government now to again refer the case to the CID. Probably, the CID will be asked to probe the case further as we have done the investigation from day one,” an official said.

On Ms Pavana sending back the probe team, a CID official said, “She had told us that she would record her statement after the 11th day ceremony of her husband. We had gone to her house on Monday morning but she did not make any statement and told us she would not do so until the FIR is registered. We had to return.”
