Hyderabad: Ramya's grandfather too dies

Family members demand capital punishment for Shravil and his friends.

Hyderabad: In a third blow to Ramya’s family, her grandfather Madhusudana Chary, who was injured in the accident, succumbed early on Monday morning at Yashoda Hospital.

The family members staged a protest at the hospital demanding capital punishment for Shravil, who was driving the car, and for his five friends who were with him.

The family’s foremost worry now is the failing health of Ramya’s mother Ms Radhika who is bedridden at home. Ramya’s uncle Mr Ramesh is in hospital undergoing treatment for injuries.

"My elder brother Venkataramana is in trauma after Ramya’s death and due to Radhika’s condition. Doctors said that I cannot move for two months. Another surgery has to be done after six months. I was praying that my father would recover and comfort the family, but we lost him too,” said a depressed Mr Ramesh.

Ms Shilpa, wife of Ramya’s other uncle Rajesh who had died on the spot, was trying to console her two-year-old son. “For somebody’s evil pleasure, our entire family paid the price and we will have to pay in future also, because we do not know when Ramesh and Radhika will become normal. Even the hospital cannot give us clarity on their health condition. We request the government to act seriously on bars and minors consuming alcohol and do justice to people like us who are suffering,” she said.

Ramya’s father Mr P. Venkatarama is an employee of Capgemini. “We are all broken mentally and financially. We have paid the hospital expenses with credit cards. We demand that besides the driver, his friends who were with him should also be punished severely,” Mr Venkataramana said.

Relatives of the family staged a protest at the hospital till 4 pm and did not allow Madhusudana Chary’s body to be shifted for autopsy. They allowed the body to be shifted only after the police assured them of strict action against the accused.

Madhusudhan succumbs to multiple organ failure
Multiple organ failure due to injuries in his lungs, spine and facial bone led to the death of Ramya?s grandfather, 68-year-old Madhusudhan Chary, on Tuesday morning.

Admitted immediately after the accident on July 1, Chary struggled for 18 days before breathing his last. His son Mr Ramesh Pami, who fractured his leg in the accident and who is in the same hospital, was brought in a stretcher to pay his last respects to his father.

After Ramya and her uncle, Chary became the third member of the family who died in the accident. Chary and his wife Ms Savitri Laxmi were scheduled to leave for the United States in August. Ramya’s father Mr Venkata Ramana said, “We are a very disciplined family. We were all living together peacefully; and this month my brother, my daughter and my father died due to the accident. We want the government to take strong action against the boys. All of them must be punished”.
