Funds crunch hits education quality at Basar IIIT

There are only 15 regular teaching faculty at the IIIT against its sanctioned strength of 169

ADILABAD: Lack of sufficient funding is continuing to hit education at Basar IIIT in Nirmal district, thereby affecting future prospects of the institute’s 9,000 students.

There are only 15 regular teaching faculty at the IIIT against its sanctioned strength of 169. Even non-teaching staff are grossly insufficient. Funds are hard to come by for even payment of salaries.

There are allegations that top officials at Basar IIIT have already utilised the ₹120 crore corpus fund of the institution. There are charges that the fund has been misappropriated. Such goings on are being attributed to the institute lacking a regular vice-chancellor since last seven years.

News is that even mess contractors are not getting their bills cleared regularly. This has affected quality of food being served to students. There have been instances of a fried frog and cockroach appearing in the food on different occasions.

The IIIT students have protested on several occasions, including for food, laptops and internet.
