Hyderabad: The SR Nagar police nabbed an interstate gang from Uttar Pradesh on Monday. The police said the eight-member gang targetted locked houses in plush colonies and decamped with valuables.
The arrested were identified as Sajid Ali, 38, Md. Afzal Qureshi, 32, Mohd Meheraj, 34, and two receivers Mohd Faizan, 19, and a minor boy, police said, adding that Imran, Anwar and Mohd Zaheeruddin, 40, are reportedly absconding.
The arrests were made in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, following a complaint from Amanullah Khalid, 28, a resident of SR Nagar, stating that the men came in a white SUV and burgled his place in broad daylight.
“The men targetted locked houses and roam in a white Scorpio. They break open the front door and then the almirah with the help of an iron rod and loot the gold ornaments. They then take the stolen stash to Meerut and sell it,” said the DCP, West Zone, A.R. Srinivas.
Following the complaint, police verified 70 CCTV cameras in the SR Nagar to Patancheru stretch and apprehended the gang from Meerut. They were then brought to the city after obtaining a transit warrant.
