Bengaluru: Why should we accept imposition of Bengali, says NEP chief

It's an identity problem and a crisis.

Bengaluru:"We condemn whatever is happening in Darjeeling. How draconian has the West Bengal government become! We cannot even fight for our own community! It’s an identity problem and a crisis.

“It is impossible to impose Bengali in the hills. To start off with, Bengal never had Darjeeling. It just fell into their hands when the British left. We were raised with a different culture,” said Rahul Chamling, president, NEP India Foundation.

“How do we just accept this imposition? More importantly, why should we? We are enraged. Our strength in Bengaluru is more than three lakh people, and we all stand with our Darjeeling, our Gorkhas,” said Mr Chamling.

Two protests planned
Members of the North Eastern People India Foundation are holding two protests against atrocities in Darjeeling at Town Hall at 3pm on Tuesday and on June 28 at Freedom Park, where all Gorkhas from across the Karnataka will come together.
