Telangana govt expects Rs 10 lakh crore from investors' meet
Hyderabad: Hyderabad will host a Global Investors’ Meet after a gap of five years. The last meet – Partnership Summit – was held in January 2012. Industries minister K.T. Rama Rao said that efforts would being made to host the meet in Hyderabad in January/February 2017 – a first for Telangana – to attract global investments in a big way.
He added that desks would be set up in the US, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan to tap investments from these countries. The Congress government headed by Mr N. Kiran Kumar Reddy had held the Partnership Summit in January 2012 at HICC, Gachibowli, during which MoUs worth over Rs 6 lakh crore were signed. Hardly a quarter of them had materialised due to political uncertainty stemming from the statehood agitation.
Mr Rao said the previous Partnership Summit would be no match for the meet being planned now. “There is no political uncertainty. There is a stable government. We have introduced business and investor-friendly policies wherein approvals are being given on self-certification basis. A huge land bank of nearly 10 lakh acre has been readied. We are confident that the Telangana government's policy of minimum inspection and maximum facilitation will work wonders and attract investments never witnessed earlier,” Mr Rao said.
The minister added that the government was aiming for Rs 10 lakh crore investments at the meet. “Even without a global investors’ meet, the industrial policy of the government, TS-iPASS, has attracted huge national and international attention. It was launched just 10 months ago but the results are for all to see. Several bigwigs came and invested in the state and many big projects are in the pipeline. Given this, it will not be a tough task to achieve this target,” Mr Rao added.
