Andhra Pradesh: Lady attendants a must in buses says, Road Transport Authority
Visakhapatnam: The Road Transport Authority has issued an appeal to the managements of all schools — girls’, co-ed and boys’ too — to appoint lady attendants on their buses. Yet, male attendants continue to be employed while at least 10 to 15 per cent of schools in Vizag city and other parts of the state don’t have attendants at all on school buses, the managements making do with temporary staff from the school.
Some schools are reluctant to employ lady attendants while others follow the rule only fitfully. A senior official with Vizag RTA, A.H. Khan said that as per the rules the transport contractor (either the school management or private transport operator) should hire bus attendants to look to the children’s safety.
A Class 10 student of a private school, P. Avinash, was crushed to death under the rear wheel of his school bus at the Simhachalam foothills on September 16, 2015.
