GHMC nod for Martyr Srikanta Chari junction

Hyderabad: The LB Nagar junction be renamed Telangana Martyr Srikanta Chary junction, the GHMC standing committee resolved here on Friday. This was the outcome of a request that locals had made to municipal minister K.T. Rama Rao.

Srikanta Chary was the first statehood martyr, having set himself on fire in 2009 at the height of the agitation demanding a separate state.

Minister K.T. Rama Rao had stated on March 25, when he inaugurated the LB Nagar right hand side flyover, that the LB Nagar junction would be named after Srikantha Chary. In line with another promise of Rama Rao, the LB Nagar RHS flyover would be named after the Goddess Mall Maisamma.

Mayor Gadwal Vijayalakshmi chaired the meeting, which was attended by commissioner D.S. Lokesh Kumar and all committee members.

On other issues, the standing committee approved the acquisition of 15 properties under the SRDP from Road No. 92 Jubilee Hills to Road No. 12 Banjara Hills.

It approved a ₹3-crore drainage diversion at Periki Pond, Gajularamaram, Quthbullapur mandal;

management of call centre (040-2111 1111) by GVK-EMRI green health from June 1, 2023 to May 31, 2026, for ₹2.27 crore.

Under CSR, it approved MoUs with Aparna Construction to build a road in Jeedimetla Ward No 132, at Pet Basheerabad; DLF Foundation for central medians and traffic islands from IIIT Junction to Radisson Hotel; and It operation and maintenance of Mahaparinirvana in Daniyalagutta, Begumpet, to Mahaprasthanam Trust for five years.

For development of roads from Naku Kondapur junction to Police Colony, Naku Safarinagar to Kondapur Jani Majeed via HT line police ground, the committee approved acquisition of 43 properties Under RDP, the 30-metre road will be widened to 48 metre from TV tower junction to Ali Cafe junction (1.4 km length), and Musi River Amberpet causeway (0.6 km), 109 properties will be acquired.
The committee also approved acquisition of 282 properties from TKR Kaman to Nagarjunasagar Road via ZP Road for a 30-metre wide road.
