Poor implementation of 2BHK scheme hurts BRS in run-up to assembly elections

Adilabad: Poor implementation of the 2BHK housing scheme is haunting the ruling BRS in both villages and towns in the run-up to the assembly elections.

BRS-sitting MLAs are having a hard time convincing the people by reeling out excuses but resentment is widespread. The same is the case with the Dalit Bandhu scheme that the government initiated with high publicity.

The state government could sanction only 100 units of the Dalit Bandhu scheme in the first phase and 1,000 units in the second phase in each assembly constituency.

The scheme envisaged a grant of ₹10 lakh financial assistance to Dalit families to start businesses and become self-reliant. Many are waiting for the cash allotment from the government.

Now the BRS MLAs and leaders have started attributing the delay in the construction of 2BHKs to the Covid pandemic and the fall in the state revenue then. The promise now is that the scheme would be implemented in a serious manner when the BRS forms the next government after the upcoming polls.

During the BRS party Athmeeya Sammelanams, sitting MLAs are asking the party's second-rung leaders and elected representatives to convince the families that had applied for 2bhks and not got them. “We are going to form the next government. It shall be done,” the MLAs aver.

The MLAs also promise that if not the 2bhks, the next government would give the applicant families a ₹3 lakh assistance build homes on their own land.

Adilabad MLA Jogu Ramanna asked the party leaders and MPTC, ZPTCs, sarpanches and ward councilors to soothe the hurt feelings of the applicants their respective areas. He reasoned that, apart from the Covid crisis, there were also difficulties in finding suitable government land for construction of 2bhks.

Bandari Satish, floor leader of BRS in the Adilabad municipality, said they have selected the 681 beneficiaries through a lucky draw for 2bhks constructed at the KRK colony on the outskirts of the Adilabad town.

“Soon we are going to select beneficiaries from the remaining wards for 222 2bhks constructed at the New Housing board colony. A total of 982 2bhks were constructed in the urban areas in the constituency including 760 at KRK colony and 222 at new housing board colony,” he said.

The 2bhks were constructed at eight places in urban areas in Adilabad assembly constituency but the works on many of the 2bhk was not completed and are at different stages. Double bedroom flats were also being constructed in Jainad and Bela mandals in the Adilabad assembly constituency.
