Chennai: Girl playing in saree swing chokes to death
Chennai: A 10 -year-old girl, who was playing in a swing made out of a saree, died of suffocation after the saree choked her.
The victim Aswathi died allegedly while playing at her aunt’s house on Friday evening.
According to police, Aswathi ( 10) a native of Krishnagiri had come to her Aunt Janaki’s house in Aynavram railway quarters for vacation. Sources said Janaki’s toddler son was unwell and hospitalised on Friday. No family member was present at the house and Aswathi was alone when the incident occurred. Meanwhile, on Friday evening Janaki’s husband Vinoth Kumar, a railway employee, returned home to find the girl chocked. Aswathi was taken to a private hosotak nearby where doctors pronounced her dead on arrival.
Doctors said the girl may have died of accidental strangulation. The body of the girl was sent to the government hospital for postmortem.
Police suspect the saree twisted quickly as she was swinging and choked the girl’s neck, and that’s why she was unable to stop, scream or get down. The Perambur Police have registered a case of unnatural death and started investigating.
