Panel for research scholars and faculty members
CHENNAI: As per the recommendation by the two-member panel, the higher education department is likely to issue guidelines to set up harassment complaint committees to deal with harassments faced by research scholars and faculty members at the higher educational institutions.
Following the sex scandal at Aruppukottai College, the government has set up a two-member panel consisting Madras University Vice-Chancellor P.Duraisamy and Tamil Nadu Open University Vice-Chancellor M.Bhaskaran to suggest new guidelines to safeguard the students from harassment.
The University Grants Commission's 2015 regulations comprehensively deal with the steps needed to be taken to prevent sexual harassment at educational institutions. The higher education department has decided to adopt these regulations fully.
“The harassment faced by research scholars and faculty members are not fully covered in the UGC regulations. So, the two-member committee has suggested new guidelines to prevent harassment at the educational institutions and these guidelines will be sent to the educational institutions,”sources said.
“Under the new guidelines, delaying the requests of the subordinates for a considerable period of time will also be treated like harassment. It will also safeguard research scholars from unnecessary delay in completing the researches,” sources added.
