Kudumbashree forays into painting service
Kozhikode: For the last few years Kudumbashree members of the district have been on a mission to explore all the possible job sectors to earn a good livelihood. One such untouched sector was the professional house or building painting service, which they have decided to give a try. As the members have already excelled in construction works and manufacturing of hollow bricks, they are all set to make a dent in painting the walls too.
Nirakkoottu Painting Unit in Ernakulam serves as an example in setting up of several other such units in the state. The unit set up 2 years ago has so far painted nearly 20 flats and has earned nearly Rs.25 lakh, therefore implementing it across the state. The hiring of lady workers is being done in every district. The beneficiary has been selected as the part of the startup in Kottayam district.
Apart from works of private companies and individuals, Kudumbashree has decided to work for Government offices too.
Nearly 2 lakh buildings will be built on behalf of LIFE project and by the time the construction works come an end, painting can be a means of employment to many. Kudumbashree makes sure that painting units get enough job opportunities by cooperating with several Government policies. Kudumbashree will play the financial role in the setting up of units along with Innovation fund for novel projects. According to Kudumbashree's calculation, this project can earn Rs 1000 a day to every member in the unit. Unit members will directly deal with painting works, their measurements and quotations. They can appoint an expert outsider only when dealing with multi-storied buildings.
