Kannur airport issues alert on job racket
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: With job rackets mushrooming to fleece candidates eyeing jobs at Kannur airport, the Kannur International Airport Limited (KIAL) has repeatedly cautioned public not to fall prey to racketeers. With the airport project nearing commissioning, recruitment to the airport as well as allied agencies are taking place.
Up to 1,000 direct and indirect jobs were expected to be generated for the project. Even the brother of CPM leader P Sasi had allegedly collected huge amounts from job seekers offering jobs at the airport. According to KIAL managing director V Thulasidas, all agencies associated with the airport have been advised to ensure transparency in the recruitment process. Public notices are also being issued by KIAL asking the public not to fall prey to job rackets. In case of any specific complaints of job fleecing, the local police was also alerted.
He said that all appointments to KIAL were being done by state government agency KITCO. All recruitment notices were being published on KILA website. The direct employment to KIAL is only around 170, majority of which were fire and safety related staff and most recruitment were already over. No private agency or individuals were authorised to carry out recruitment on behalf the KIAL.
Mr. Thulasidas said that preference in appointments to KIAL was given to members of 180 families evicted for acquiring land for the airport. Many were already accommodated and other agencies related to the airport were also requested to give preference to the candidates from these families, he said. It may be recalled that a private airline had to even abandon recruitment process due to huge rush of candidates.
