District panels to redress non-resident Keralities complaints

Also many NRKs used to complain of delay in getting various certificates from local self government institutions.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The state government has decided to constitute district level committees comprising district collectors and district police chiefs to ensure speedy redressal of complaints of non-resident Keralities (NRKs) and their families. The decision was taken considering the suggestions that came up at the Loka Kerala Sabha, a meet of NRKs organised by the state government here in January.

Many NRKs had expressed concerns at the meet that their genuine complaints were not getting due consideration at police stations and before revenue authorities. NORKA secretary K.Ellangovan said that most of the issues faced by the NRKs and their families pertained to civil cases like property disputes or encroachments that required intervention of revenue authorities as well as police.

Also many NRKs used to complain of delay in getting various certificates from local self government institutions. Hence officials of these departments were made members of the district level committee. It has to meet every month to consider complaints of NRKs and their families and should also do necessary follow-up, he said. While the respective district collectors will chair the committee in each district, the members of the committee would be the respective district police chief, deputy director of panchayat, one representative each of NORKA Roots and Kerala NRK Welfare Board and three representatives of returnees, including a woman. Deputy director of panchayt will be the convenor of the committee and all decisions of each meetings should be informed to the NORKA department within a month.
