Kodanad estate break-in: Kerala cops probe mishap near Salem
COIMBATORE: The Kerala police have widened the investigations from their side in the Kodanad estate break-in-cum-murder case, after a key suspect K.V. Sayan was transferred to the Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) here on Wednesday night.
Sayan, alleged to be the brain of Kodanad robbery and murder case, was admitted to a private hospital in Coimbatore recently and was treated for the serious injuries he sustained a road accident near Madhukarai on April 29, in which his wife Vinupriya and their daughter Neeha were tragically killed.
Sayan himself was initially admitted to a hospital in Coimbatore and Judge of JM-5 magistrate court here, Selva Kumar had recorded his statement.
Meanwhile, police had arrested six persons and remanded to judicial custody in Coimbatore, while two others were imprisoned in Kerala. Police said one more alleged offender in the case is still on the run.
After initial investigations police came to know that Sayan has played a key role in the Kodanad estate murder-cum-robbery case.
While the Nilgiris SP, Murali Ramba had enquired Sayan recently, reportedly for three hours, police later launched a search at his house.
With Sayan’s relatives declining to pay the bills at the private hospital to enable his continued treatment, the accused was transferred immediately to the CMCH on Wednesday night and is being treated there in the ICU amid tight security.
Police are tight-lipped on the progress of the investigations so far including about search conducted at Sayan’s house. It is under these circumstances, the Kerala police have been allowed to investigate Sayan here on Thursday.
The Kerala police officials told the press that they have launched an investigation about the accident and how it happened, but refused to disclose further details.
