Pillars to squeeze YMCA junction
Hyderabad: After the manic Rasoolpura junction, the next traffic bottleneck is all set to form at the YMCA junction on the Sardar Patel road.
Markings have already been made for the construction of two Metro rail support structures, in the middle of the carriageway at the junction. The markings — for pillars — have left many motorists wondering if there will be space left for vehicular movement.
“Two boxes have been painted on both sides of the road at the junction. Once the pillars come up, there will hardly be any space left for vehicles to pass. And all the metro rail pillars are going to be a permanent feature. Rasoolpura junction is already a nightmare, what will happen here?” asked S. Vinay Kumar, a resident of the Syndicate Bank Colony at West Marredpally.
The Sardar Patel road is a high-density road used by commuters from Secunderabad to Begumpet, Punjagutta. “As it is the vital road from Jubilee bus terminus (JBS), the YMCA junction is chocked due to ongoing metro works. Authorities must also identify alternative routes,” said Sanjeev Gupta, who commutes from Karkhana to the Secunderabad Station.
L&T officials said the two support structures will not be a permanent feature and will be removed after the works on the elevated structure are completed. “The Metro coming from Secunderabad station via Garden Restaurant will jump over Hari Hara kala Bhavan flyover and also, the metro rail elevated corridor coming from Sangeet via St Anns to JBS. This jump will be 60-feet high and we need strong support structures during the construction. They will need to be there at least for three months,” said metro rail authorities.
