Kerala rape and murder case: Amnesty International India calls for action
Kochi: Amnesty International India has launched an online petition aiming at 20,000 signatures demanding justice for the the Dalit law student killed in Perumbavoor after a suspected sexual assault.
The petition titled Kerala Home Minister: Ensure Justice for Raped and Murdered Dalit Student Jisha has already received over 3,000 endorsements since its launch a few days ago.
It asks the home minister to take immediate steps to ensure an independent investigation into the alleged police inaction. The campaign plans to enlist signatories from all over the country and submit the same to the Kerala Chief Minister.
The campaign will continue until the first week of June, said Rekha Raj, programme manager, Women’s Rights, Amnesty International India. Meanwhile, the investigation team is still groping in the dark about the culprits behind the murder. Although the team has questioned several persons, they are yet to identify the killer.
A police team has also gone to West Bengal on the suspicion that some individuals from the state working in the Perumbavoor region have been reportedly missing from the area after the incident.
The law student was found dead in her single-room house near Kuruppampady in Perumbavoor on April 28.
