State police to introduce CEIR equipment to track lost mobile phones

Hyderabad: Director General of Police Anjani Kumar, on Tuesday announced that a tracking system called Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) would be introduced to trace lost or stolen cell phones.

Superintendents and commissioners of police were briefed about the CEIR during a video conference that the DGP organised.

Anjani Kumar advised police officers to spread awareness about the CEIR. He said the policy would be launched on May 17, World Telecom Day.

Additional DGP Mahesh Bhagwat said that police officers were being trained on this system in 750 police stations. If someone comes to the police station regarding a lost cell phone, the receptionist should enter the details in the CEIR app, he said.

CEIR has been introduced under the auspices of the telecom ministry. Those who lose their mobiles should log in to www.ceir.gov.in which will show a link to block lost/stolen mobile. The owners would need to upload the lost phone and IMEI numbers, company name, model and bill as also the date where the mobile was lost, state, district and police station complaint details.

The user's name, address, identity card, e-mail id, and another mobile number for OTP should be given. After all this is done, an ID number will be received and the respective ID phone status can be known.
