Telangana High Court: Pay ex gratia to farmers’ families

The government submitted that it had already sanctioned compensation amounts to all such families

Hyderabad: The division bench of Telangana High Court, comprising Chief Justice Satish Chandra Sharma and Justice Abhinand Kumar Shavili, on Monday directed the state government to expedite the process of payment of ex gratia of Rs 6 lakh to the family members of each and every farmer, who had committed suicide unable to bear the losses suffered by crop failure.

The bench was dealing with a PIL filed by Bannuru Kondala Reddy, a social activist from Mohinpura in Siddipet Medak district, seeking a direction to the Telangana government to pay the compensation on a priority basis. The government submitted that it had already sanctioned compensation amounts to all such families. Vasudha Nagraj, counsel for the petitioner, informed the court that some families in Jayashankar Bhupalpally were yet to be paid the amount.

The court directed the government to expedite the process and place the report before it.

The case was adjourned and it would be taken up after the summer vacation recess.
