Vijayawada: PM Narendra Modi chanting BC mantra for votes

Suggesting categorisation of BC reservation but the BJP government did not implement these recommendations.

Vijayawada: The Congress alleged that there was suppression of BCs under the BJP government and that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was trying to mislead people with false claims about the attack on him as an "attack on BCs".

AP Congress Committee general secretary Dr Gangadhar said that opposition parties, including the Congress, were questioning the government about corruption and illegalities in the BJP government but PM Modi was trying to divert the issue to get political mileage as it was election time.

Addressing the media in Vijayawada on Thursday, Dr Gangadhar alleged that Mr Modi was behind the anti-reservation movement in 1984 in Gujarat and was now chanting the BC mantra to get votes of BCs in the elections.

He alleged that the BJP had halted the mandal proposal of the then Prime Minister V.P. Singh, but the Congress government, led by the then PM Rajiv Gandhi, provided reservations to BCs in 1991.

He further claimed that no census was conducted about BCs after the 1931 census but the Congress government started a socioeconomic caste census in 2011. Due to some technical issues, this was not completed.

He further stated that the Justice Eswaraiah Commission appointed by the Congress government in 2011 had submitting its report, suggesting categorisation of BC reservation but the BJP government did not implement these recommendations.

Dr Gangadhar objected to the checking of the helicopters of the Karnataka and Odisha CMs and alleged that PM Modi was shifting money illegally in his helicopter to help BJP leaders in the elections.
