Thiruvananthapuram: Archbishop cautions against ‘divisive forces’
Thiruvananthapuram: Thiruvananthapuram Latin Catholic Archbishop and KCBC president M. Soosapakyam has cautioned his community members against forces that divide people on the grounds of religion.
In a subtle message on the occasion of Maundy Thursday, he also said that the Latin Catholic community will keep equal distance with all political fronts in the general elections.
“The believers have the right to vote according to their conscience,” he said. “During the elections, I want to remind the people that we should lead the country from lies to truth and from darkness to light,” said the archbishop.
The Church has no bias towards any political party as it finds goodness in all of them, he added. He, however, expressed his unhappiness over the fact that the distribution of Ockhi relief to the victims has not been completed.
The Latin Catholic Church decision has an impact on almost all coastal constituencies. Though traditionally a vote bank of the UDF, the LDF has managed to make inroads into the community in recent years.
Earlier, the Nair Service Society had also called upon devotees to make the right choice in the elections and maintained an equidistance policy towards all parties.
