Telangana High Court comes to the rescue of couple separated by police

Ateeq was picked up by the police, following a complaint by his mother-in-law that her minor daughter was missing and with 35 tolas of gold.

Hyderabad: A couple which was forced to live separately got reunited with the intervention of the Telangana High Court on Thursday, which also pulled up the police for poor investigation and for sending the boy to a jail, in a bailable offence, which was registered under Section 363 of IPC.

A division bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Raghavendra Singh Chauhan and Justice A. Rajasheker Reddy, was dealing with a habeas corpus filed by Rizwana Begum, that her son, Mohammed Ateeq was detained by the Falaknuma police.

Ateeq was picked up by the police, following a complaint by his mother-in-law that her minor daughter was missing and with 35 tolas of gold. But, Ateeq and Noor ran away and got married on April 11, 2019. The police traced the couple in Bengaluru. The girl was handed over to her mother, and Ateeq was booked under a kidnap case. Rizwana Begum filed a plea in the High Court to produce her son. But, the same day, Ateeq was produced before a court in a case of kidnap and sent to Chanchalguda jail.

After summons, the Falaknuma police produced the girl in the court, where she said that she was a major and she got married to Ateeq on her own free will. She also showed the video of their Nikah on her mobile phone.

The court ordered the police to send Noor with Rizwana and also directed the Superintendent of Chanchalguda jail to set free Ateeq immediately.
