Candidates seek probe into Telangana police recruitment

Over 7.19 lakh aspirants applied for the job.

Hyderabad: A large number of aspirants of the Telangana police recruitment examinations staged a dharna at Basheerbad demanding cancellation of the main examination scheduled on April 28 and asked to re-conduct physical exams, alleging a scam. The candidates demanded a probe into the recruitment process.

The Telangana State Level Police Recruitment Board (TSLPRB) initiated the process of recruitment of 18,435 police constables, assistant sub-inspectors and sub-inspectors on different posts through separate notifications. Over 7.19 lakh aspirants applied for the job and even paid the application fee.

A total of 2,24,741 candidates appeared for the physical measurement test and physical efficiency test conducted by the board and of them 1,17,660 qualified. However, many candidates complained that there was no fixed format to conduct the test and that no procedures were being followed.

“In the 800-metre (400x2) run, where the candidates were allowed 170 seconds, the recruitment board made 50-60 candidates to run at the same time, which is against the norms of allowing only four or five members on the track at the same time. This led to discomfort and a wastage of time because the track was overcrowded,” said Mr Kiran Kumar, an aspirant.

It is alleged that in many centers where examinations were held, the officers of the recruitment board allowed candidates who were not of Telangana state origin.

Also, one Ms M. Raji, who had appeared for the police recruitment exam held in 2016 and even appeared for the mains, had reapplied for the post in 2018. She was reportedly disqualified on grounds of her height. She was shown to be shorter than the qualifying height by an inch. The height of another applicant was 168 cm, which met the eligibility criteria of 167.8. His height was shown to be 172.5 cm. Many candidates aspirants demanded for the postponement of the main test and to reconduct some tests afresh.
